Halleluwah Hits: Comin' At Ya!

Thursday, February 25, 2010 by camille

Our first blog installment of the story that is Halleluwah Hits, Glasgow's new label for cutting-edge pop music. With a little nook in the Che Camille showroom, the boys encourage all music lovers to pop their head into this man-corner to find limited edition tees, rare vinyl and some damn good banter.

******************************

When we met Tom Marshallay, aka Dam Mantle, up in HH HQ, he brought with him a few tunes he'd been creating under the name Animals + War.  Loving the sound, we immediately asked if he could do us a mixtape and the result just blew us away, introducing us to his new musical direction as Dam Mantle. Still hanging on to the roots of Animals + War, but mixing it up with all the exciting aspects of the Glasgow electronic scene. After asking Tom to DJ at a few Che Camille parties, we discovered we were all on the same brainlength - the intense feeling that Glasgow has a musical energy unriveled right now, that something is going to explode in the city!

With the bloggers and magazines including Neu, 405 and Wire starting to go wild for Dam Mantle, these next couple of months are going to be well busy. Especially as his remixing duties are in heavy demand, with upcoming reworks of Gold Panda, Au Revoir Simone and Gonjasufi, and more in the pipeline.

Over the next week we talked about a release, and we're happy to announce it will be bouncing off your ears on the 5th of April, on a Easter Special holy Halleluwah day. Grey, Dam Mantle's debut EP is a fusion of various elements, exploring the theatrical and the transcultural all the while holding on to electronic music for dear life. Dam Mantle often finds itself stuck in a loop where various points in time and various cultures meet and refract each other, this forms a regurgitation of 'now'. The pic above is from the awesome EP cover work, which is all Tom's (Dam Mantle) design  and to add to the beauty of this release, he is screenprinting each one, by himself, all 300 copies!

Rock The Shop, a pop video by the Niallist had it's debut screening at our  V-Day bash and was released to the wilds of the internet last week, you lucky things!

This tongue-in-cheek tune charts the origins and adventures of Che Camille, from humble beginings in renegade warehouse spaces, arson attacks, moving to the "classy" saltmarket, meeting flash footballers, and rising to local infamy alongside the Niallist and other creative characters.

The Niallist is one hell of talented guy. Some say he's glasgow's very own white barry white or the fresh prince, but all we know is that his cover of missy elliot is pure bangin'.

Set in our current showroom 'n' studio and filled with beautiful people this vid was directed by The Niallist. It stars alongside Camille, the crew from Little Rock Records (big up Boag, Dave Sapien, Paul, Liam), models from LVB Agency (Stevie, Christina, Ailsa, Max, Fraser and Demi). Spot the guest appearances from Lachlann Rattray (Gay Against You) and Rabii Denim. Revel in their fun and frolickin', copy their poses and tour the shop...

The Niallist's inspiration for this vid came in the form of internet-sensation Flea Market Montgomery, his brillant two-step dance moves and lyrics promoting his fleamarket that's "just like a mini mall! HEY HEY! OH YEAH!"

Catch the awesome Niallist at the AC/ID Launch Party, 7th March Black Sparrow, Glasgow

Rising Star: Jodi McCann

Friday, February 05, 2010 by camille

This Thursday, Che Camille is proud to present the debut collection of Jodi McCann just in time for Valentines Day!

Inspired by the eccentric French artist Orlan, Jodi's sultry collection Bruised Perfection embodies the Parisian spirit through transforming luxurious fabrics, velvets, lace and chiffons, into delicately detailed feminine garments. Muted shades of black, midnight blue and the occasional flash of electric blue create a delicously seductive gothy, rock chic feel. Picture corseted chiffon beaded dresses, lace print trousers and velvet lace trimmed jackets fusing romance with attitude. This is a truly sophisticated collection featuring a mixture of contemporary wearable pieces alongside the more unique conceptual ones - best of all they're fun to wear!

Smuts, Moustaches and Jodi McCan will also feature a debut of our new men's vintage, lingerie ranging from kinky to romantic and a giant buffet of jewellery from Cara Fairbairn, a jeweller much in demand for her art deco pearl and silver pieces.

Dress up for this one! This fashion event is gauranteed to keep both sexes happy. Cheeky models, filthy tunes, and a chance to show your partner what you'd like to find in your lingerie drawer.

Pick up tickets in store or online.

SwediSh SwiSh

Friday, January 22, 2010 by camille

Someone once told me that it was a waste for any girl with a waist not to enhance it, and that's why god gave us belts....

And when the belts are as pretty as SwediSh SwiSh's belts how could you resist!  They are hand-crafted in Sweden from vintage fabrics and retro buckles, sourced from all over Europe, giving you the pick of a wide selection of colours, textures and trims.  There's a belt for every mood, especially as some are reversible giving you two belts in one - handy if your off on a city-break, always changing your look or just super indecisive.

Our personal favourites are the barouque inspired ones - black lace  on dusky purple or raised black velvet on charcoal, they're so sultry! The perfect thing to lift your beloved LBD.

Known & Unknown Faces

Thursday, January 14, 2010 by camille

Coming soon are these beautiful necklaces, hand-crafted by Jane McAllister. Known and Unknown Faces is the name of this charming collection. Each piece has six open lockets, featuring a mixture of famous and unknown portraits.

They are a creative re-imaging of the classic locket.  The unknown faces  are full of intrigue and mystery,  leading you to wonder  about their lives. Yet, sitting alongside  them are the celebrities whose faces remind you of their historically  significant or scandalous life-story and their many achievements. These necklaces are almost a poignant exploration in celebrity and memory.

Cute, as well, they are decorated with vintage-style leafy trinkets and costume pearls. They are sure to wow all and add a touch of sophistication and allure to your outfits.

As Light as a Butterfly

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 by camille

Katherine Agnew creates delightful silver jewellery inspired by our wonderful Scottish landscape and the storytelling lyrics and emotions of music. Her current collection is inspired by 'The Hazards of Love' album by The Decemberists and the stunning scenery of Glen Tanar, in the Cairngorms. This talented silversmith modern and interesting approach to jewellery-making makes her pieces all the more personal and unique.

Our product of the week is Agnew's silver butterfly pins. They are so light and delicate, perfect for adding a subtle dash of bling to your dresses and creating the illusion that a tiny butterfly is resting on your clothes. So cute!!!

Glasgow, you gotta love it.....

Let's celebrate the best of local colour with tees from Anonymous Living's who draw their inspiration from the city around them, allowing you to wear the lion rampant on your chest with pride. Plus, their parody of the Glasgow's coat of arms is a witty and stylish stand against mega-bucks developers running amok in the city!

Social Recluse have done a range of exciting tees, designed right here in Glasgow these tees will be sure to delight all with their punchy graphics, colours and effects.

The superb modern and minimalist new collection of jewellery from Bronwen Deane's is entitled 'Barrowlands' and celebrates the magnificent architecture of Glasgow. She uses traditional silver techniques alongside more innovative acrylic printing ones to create these unique and thoughtful pieces, making them excellent presents.

For all magpies out there, why not gift them a snazzy Tenement t-shirt or homely tea towel. Emblazoned with a shiny metallic bar, cheekily resembling a certain favourite Scottish snack, the proud words 'Glasgow, taking the biscuit' are splashed across it - unique and brilliant.

A Work of Art

What better way to raise a smile on Christmas day than with a piece of wonderfully whimsical, clever and brilliant art.

Cute and colourful, is the best way to describe Jinevra's art dolls. Inspired by Japanese anime these one-of-a-kind dolls were specially hand-crafted for our Urban Jungle event. They resemble a more sassy and multi-cultural version of a girl band, they're perfect for all those young at heart.

Get David Galletly's are in your chest. His t-shirt illustrations feature quirky characters in surreal scenes, these limited edition tees would be a great left-field edition to your loved ones tee collection.

Thank god for the arty Pow Wow! zines, they're an awesome collection of creative writing and illustrations. Pow Wow! is as beautiful as it is bizarre and the ideal gift for all those deep thinkers.

Imagine unwrapping a interesting painting by Christine Clark on Christmas day...her multi-texture dreamlike pieces would be ideal for all art-lovers. And for all fashionistas out there her clothes created in collaboration with her twin sister, the fashion designer Judith R Clark, they are unique pieces of wearable works of art.

Perfect fo guys who are too relaxed to wear suits but still want to look über smart. Richard Olive's scarves would be the perfect accompaniment to any of Hibernate's great tweeds. Crafted from 100% silk yarn these scarves are indie-tastic and totally stealable girls! Featuring interesting geometric pattern in contrasting colours; navy n cream, maroon n grey and if there is a brave soul how about fuchsia n orange.

Perhaps some very tongue in cheek comics by Bad Press would go down a treat. Wasted is full of awesome strips by Simon Bisley, Frank Quitely, Jon Haward and Alan Grant guaranteed to raise a smile but probably best not to open in front of granny...

For all the foodies why not get them our truly scrumptious Portuguese goodies from BoaBoca Gourmet. Gifts that they'll love and you can enjoy aswell.

Hand-crafted, unique and stylish - the only way to describe furniture by D. I. G. Artists John Galvin, Joachim King and Thomas Deeprose established a design collective called Design in Glasgow to allow them to produce experimental high-end bespoke furniture. Our favourites are the nest of tables covered in children's drawings, it's witty, colourful and like a piece of naive art, and the coffee table with toy soldiers under the glass is fun minimalism.

Not quite sure what to get your fashion-loving other half, why not try a gift certificate for Che Camille's Sewing Workshop. This series of five Sunday workshops is designed to celebrate and teach the art of bespoke dressmaking. Design, fabric selection, pattern cutting and machine sewing are all part of the course. Tutored by three talented women with different areas of expertise in pattern cutting, design and textiles - this workshop is suitable for all levels. You never know they might just make you something...If your lover is all thumbs no fingers, it might just be best to commission our amazing tailors to create the Made-To-Measure piece of their dreams.
